About

Baku Vis Pre-Moot is a preparatory competition for participants of the The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the most acclaimed international commercial arbitration moot court competition. Starting this year, the Pre-Moot has been established to provide a dedicated platform for law students to gain essential practical experience. The initiative focuses on offering teams a structured environment where they can test their legal arguments and receive constructive feedback from qualified arbitrators, directly enhancing their preparedness.

William C. Vis Moot

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is an annual competition of teams representing law schools throughout the world. The Moot is intended to stimulate the study of international commercial law, especially the legal texts prepared by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and the use of international commercial arbitration to resolve international commercial disputes. Eligibility

Participation is exclusively open to teams that are officially registered for the 33rd Moot or 23rd Vis East Moot. Each institution is limited to one team. Organizing Committee may, at its own discretion, allow two teams from the same university only if they have registered as separate teams for the Moot and the East Moot.

Oral Hearings

The Pre-Moot shall be structured into General rounds, Semi-final round, and a Final round. Each participating team shall compete in two preliminary oral rounds: once as Claimant and once as Respondent. Teams qualifying for the Semi-final and Final shall argue only once per round. The procedural roles (claimant/respondent) for these rounds will be determined by lot unless a role-swap is required due to a previous encounter.
